Rocky View County council agreed to borrow $952,000 on behalf of Wintergreen Woods community for potable water upgrades to the community's lines during the Sept. 13 meeting.

According to the bylaw passed by council, the money will be recovered as a Local Improvement Tax from the residents who benefit from the upgrade.

The project was significantly delayed, confirmed Kent Robinson, the executive director for RVC, due to the fact the bids to construct the upgraded system came in $445,000 over what was initially budgeted by the County. That meant, he told councillors, that Wintergreen Woods residents had to be informed about this significant increase, and asked if they were still willing to bear the brunt of the cost through a Local Improvement Tax.

Having gotten the go-ahead from residents of the southwest RVC community, Robinson advised council it should pass the bylaw, confirm the total amount to be borrowed, and pass the levying of the Local Improvement Tax.

Those connected motions were made by area Coun. Kevin Hanson (Division 1), who called for second and third readings. These passed unanimously.
