2021 Federal Election Coverage

On Sept. 8, voters in the Banff-Airdrie riding had their first opportunity to hear candidates speak opposite each other in the lead-up to the Sept. 20 federal election.

“The Green Party has always been a vessel advocating to change the political arena to be healthier and to be more democratic and not be afraid to work across party lines. When faced with disaster, when faced with crises or hardships as a riding, province or a country, I think being able to collaborate and cooperate is what drives economics and solutions.”

“No matter what it is we want people to vote, and we don’t want people to stay at home. We can all go on social media to complain about what’s going on, but if you don’t vote you don't have the right to complain."

With the federal election now just a few weeks away, Getu Shawile is putting his name in the ring, with hopes of securing the Bow River riding for the Liberal Party.

On one hand he has had enough of Banff-Airdrie MP Blake Richards and on the other, he believes the federal pathways are not benefiting the interests of Alberta, vowing to work toward the province’s independence.

Martin Shields has announced his bid for a third term as the Member of Parliament for the Bow River riding in the upcoming federal election, set for Sept. 20.

“The system is broken, there is certainly corruption in all major parties. The basic ability of an MP to represent his constituents is gone. Everybody kind of knows that if you don’t do the bidding of the leader of your party, your career is going to be a short one. The people who have been a long time are there because they’ve learned how to be quiet, how to keep their heads low and how to kind of play the Ottawa game. I think people are sick of it."

With federal election voting day just a few weeks away, Sarah Zagoda has announced she is looking to secure the Banff-Airdrie riding for the New Democratic Party (NDP).

Over 200 people showed their support for the People’s Party of Canada leader Maxime Bernier’s campaign stop with the party's Banff-Airdrie candidate Nadine Wellwood at the Lions Event Centre in Cochrane on Aug. 30.
