With a flick of the wrist and the proper magic, The Pink Wand Cleaning Services have wished their way to a gold medal award in the house cleaners category of this year’s Best of Airdrie Readers’ Choice Awards.

The business was first established in Airdrie 15 years ago. They offer commercial and residential-based cleaning. In addition, they provide a non-medical at-home concierge service called At Home with Pink Wand.

Founder and president of the business Jacqui Jepson started The Pink Wand from the ground up. Prior to starting the enterprise, she would clean homes by herself after dropping her kids off at school.

With growing clientele, Jepson soon realized that she needed to hire some workers to grow the business. Today, she has 40 employees at their headquarters in Airdrie. Through hard work and determination, Pink Wand is now a million-dollar business.

The local entrepreneur said her team of staff is what makes the job so fulfilling. Without them, Jepson said none of the work they accomplish would be possible. Working together as a team is vital to the business’ operations.

“I have an amazing team,” she said. “That’s why we’ve been here for 15 years now.”

Jepson said that without the community of Airdrie behind The Pink Wand, they would not be where they are today. The encouragement from those they work with and other businesses has had a huge impact on the company’s success.

With the introduction of the house cleaners category in this year’s Best of Airdrie Readers’ Choice Awards, Jepson said she was excited to hear The Pink Wand had won the inaugural award.

“It’s an honour to be gold for year one,” Jepson said. “I was excited because it was based upon feedback and votes from the community that we work in and that supports us.”

Multiple barriers have impacted small businesses throughout the last few years, both in Alberta and nationally. From the COVID-19 pandemic to the higher rates of inflation, small businesses are taking the punch head-on.

Jepson believes it is important that businesses within the community continue to support each other through difficult economic times. She added supporting each other is vital to the success of every business in the city.

“I think it’s key, especially after the past few years, to ensure that we’re supporting one another and the individuals that work in our businesses and our community,” Jepson said.

Looking back at 2008 when The Pink Wand was first founded, and looking into the future, Jepson said she wants to continue providing Airdrie and region with the best cleaning services they can.

They want to continue to add staff members to their team and provide those looking for jobs with fulfilling work.
