“This year will be the company’s 45th anniversary and we’ve been operating in Alberta for 16 years now,” shares Sarah Fulford, Marketing Manager for Mattamy’s Alberta Division.

“Our new show home in Southwinds will feature our wide lot design,” says Fulford. “The community will include a track, dog park, and in the future, a large recreation centre.”

“We buy the land. We plan the land. We develop the land,” explains Fulford. “When we create a new community, we are the only builder on the project, so we have architectural control to ensure that our proven, market-researched plans go forward. In many other situations, a developer purchases the land and there are several builders working within one community. When we buy the land, we are thinking about what homes and amenities make sense for our buyers and their lifestyles and plan it out completely from start to finish – and beyond. Ours is a completely holistic approach.”
“Having that control allows us to do cool and interesting things. We can approve innovative plans quickly for homeowners. This includes our wide lots. It’s a custom design that offers an alternative to the long, skinny lots that are typical in Alberta. Our wide lots allow for a larger front porch, backyard, and using more of the space efficiently.”
The team at Mattamy knows that prospective homebuyers are facing challenges.
“The real estate and homebuilding industry is cyclical,” says Fulford. “Just like our buyers, Mattamy does not set the real estate market for housing, we participate in it. Currently the market is reacting to the interest-rate and inflation environment, and all participants – both buyers and sellers are impacted. We sell through all market cycles and every week sell homes at prices that reflect the market at that time. We really believe in creating quality homes of enduring value that our buyers can be proud of for years to come.
