Though the event was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and shifted towards an online auction last year, this year’s event is hoping to see a return to pre-pandemic popularity.  

The open forum discussion held at the “white church at the coulee” on Oct. 18 was designed to start a conversation about the site following Reverend Ruth McArthur’s retirement.

“He’s well aware of the issues in Town and I think all of council and Doug are going to get along just great. I think the Town will begin to move forward after losing our CAO, Barry Hutchinson,” Bryson said.

“The [L.M. Montgomery] book has been here for quite a long time, actually, so for us it was rediscovering it, I suppose," McElroy said.

An email from the Town's lawyer indicated the court “dismissed the entirety of Katelnikoff’s claim,” and added the plaintiff “had not proven that the Town of Irricana was negligent and had not proven any of her alleged damages.”

Two quick-thinking boys from Irricana were among seven young people recognized by the City of Calgary for being 'Young 911 Heroes' at an event at the TELUS Spark Science Centre last month.

According to Stahl, a little bit of showmanship when presenting to the judges went a long way back in his competition days.

The Town of Irricana posted the unofficial results of the byelection to Facebook on Sept. 7, indicating Sim and Fleming led the way with 212 and 208 votes, respectively.

“I’ve known him for quite a few years and he was a very loving, caring, giving person,” Bryson said. “He would volunteer and help anyone at any time. He was just a great person.”

“To me, it’s an old building that would be part of the Badlands’ story and if I can keep that going, I’d like to keep the old building because there’s not a lot of them left,” he said.
