A 26-year-old Airdrie woman gave birth in her car on Highway 2 near Balzac, Aug. 20 at about 9 p.m.
The woman was on the way to the Peter Lougheed Centre with her spouse and mother when it became apparent the baby was coming before they could get there.
Her husband pulled over on the highway across from CrossIron Mills mall and called 911 while her mother “caught” the healthy baby boy.
Airdrie EMS arrived at the scene after the birth and gave mom and son a clean bill of health.
“EMS was happy to see the baby was fine when they arrived,” said Bruce Conway, spokesman for Alberta Health Services.
Mom and baby were transported to the hospital after the birth and have since been released from hospital.
