Christmas for all

For most of us, Christmas means gathering to share food and fun with those we love, but not everyone has family nearby to celebrate the holiday season.

For most of us, Christmas means gathering to share food and fun with those we love, but not everyone has family nearby to celebrate the holiday season.

Local businesses will be hosting a festive event on Christmas Eve in the Diamond Room at the Best Western Hotel. Sid Safadi, general manager of the Best Western, says he’s looking forward to chatting and sharing the evening with new friends and neighbours.

“Last year, we had about 50 or so people come and go throughout the evening,” said Safadi.

“Not everyone is fortunate enough to be with friends and family on Christmas Eve, so this allows them the opportunity to share the evening with others. It’s a great way for newcomers to our community to make new friends. We don’t want anyone to be alone on Christmas Eve.”

The evening is also open to families and individuals who may be experiencing hardship at this time of year.

“There won’t be a full sit down meal, but there will be lots of food that people can help themselves to. They can just come on in, grab a plate and help themselves,” said Safadi.

All the food is donated by local businesses and volunteers run the event. Santa will also make an appearance to chat with youngsters and give them a treat bag. Christmas music will be playing throughout the evening and the dance floor will be open.

“We want everyone to feel welcome,” said Safadi.

The Christmas Eve gathering will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. For more information, call Safadi at 403-466-3700.
