Wild Rose MP Blake Richards presented the Airdrie and District Victims Assistance Society (ADVAS) a $20,000 donation on Nov. 14, the funds were a portion of the proceeds from his Rocky Mountain Hockey Challenge, which took place in Cochrane on Aug. 18.
ìVictims Services are there every day in our times of greatest need, and Iím incredibly grateful for the support of our sponsors, players and volunteers in raising over a quarter-million dollars for victimsí assistance in just five years,î said Richards.
The annual hockey game is hosted by Richard and co-hosted by Calgary Flames alumni and victims advocate Sheldon Kennedy, the hockey challenge raised funds for the Airdrie & District Victims Assistance, Cochrane & Area Victims Services, Bow Valley Victims Services, and Chinook Arch Victims Services. The fifth annual game, raised more than $80,000 for Victims Services, of which $20,000 has been allotted to ADVAS.
ìObviously, this program is vitally important,î Richards said. ìVictims are at a low point in their lives and this year in particular victim assistance groups were helping with those affected by this summers flood.î
Richards said the hockey challenge was one of the biggest fundraiser for the victim assistance programs, and that $20,000 was one of the largest amounts donated.
ìIím honoured to have had the opportunity to support them with this event over the past several years,î he said.
A representative from ADVAS was not available for comment by press time.
The five year total raised by the Rocky Mountain Hockey Challenge is just over $281,000.
