A storage unit in the basement parkade of Bayside Road, located in The Breeze condominiums, was the scene of a robbery, Aug. 31, according to Airdrie RCMP.

Suspects entered the storage container by bending the lock off the main unit.

A $700 bicycle was stolen and is described as a MUTKA woman’s 18-speed with brown colouring and a black seat.

There have been other break and enters reported from The Breeze during the summer. In addition, the Mackenzie Way condominium’s storage units on Eighth Street have also been broken into.

An Aug. 28 blaze that gutted an abandoned Hillcrest home was caused by careless disposal of a cigarette, according to the Airdrie Fire Department.

“There were some people that had been up there shortly before the fire,” said Russ McKeage, lead investigator with the AFD for the case.

Nine firefighters, two trucks and one tanker were on scene at 10:30 p.m. and crews worked until about 2:30 a.m. before they were satisfied the fire was contained. Because the house collapsed into itself, it was still smouldering and crews were called out the next morning to make sure the situation did not escalate again. The Hillcrest blaze has now been re-classified as an accidental fire.

If you have information on any unsolved crimes, call the Airdrie RCMP detachment at 403-945-7200 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
