Members of the Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP’s rural detachment were called to a report of an accident in the 300 block of Brickyard Road in Enderby, about 35 kilometres north of Vernon, shortly before 9 p.m.

“Witnesses reported a red pickup driving erratically and striking a pole, shearing it off,” said RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.

Police say alcohol is a contributing factor in the crash.

Three motorcycles were travelling eastbound up the Cochrane Hill at a high rate of speed. The trailing motorcycle lost control and crashed into the south guardrail. The driver of the motorcycle was ejected and came to rest in the middle of the two eastbound lanes.

The motorcycle crossed over into the westbound lane where it was struck by a pick-up truck heading into Cochrane. The driver of the motorcycle suffered extensive leg injuries and was taken to Foothills Hospital via STARS Air Ambulance in critical condition.

Speed and inexperience appear to be the major factors in this collision. The incident is under investigation by Cochrane RCMP.
