I have recently had the pleasure to read in the Airdrie City View that there are many people expressing their desire to have a hospital in Airdrie. The reasons that everyone states are all very valid and important.
My wife and I are seniors. I have needed to visit hospitals in Calgary on 26 separate days since May to visit my wife, who was suffering from a nasty non-infectious disease (not COVID-19). Having to travel there every one of those days was tiring and expensive.
My wife and I have never been that satisfied when going to the 24-7 Urgent Care Centre on Main Street, as it is short of lots of medical equipment. The times we have had to visit, we were there for at least four hours waiting for what we considered to be minor treatment.
On Oct. 18, we had an election resulting in the next City council. I encourage Airdrie citizens to write in to council to please make your views known as soon as possible, so council knows, right at the start of its term, that there is a real, urgent need for a hospital here.
An Airdrie-based hospital would certainly have been a great impact on the many Airdronians who had to travel to Calgary for treatment for COVID-19.
