Letter to the Editor: Mayor and council should be more fiscally responsible

Dear Mayor Brown,

As noted in the City View paper, it was noted that you suggested that Airdrie needs support in the Alberta budget.  I find this very interesting.  You, as the mayor, should seek what the people of Airdrie want.  You are an elected official along with city council.

What we as the people of Airdrie desire is a government that is fiscally responsible.  In other words, we should only buy what we can afford.  The city has grown greatly over the last years, and the income of the city has grown greatly.  I think the city council, along with the mayor, need only to spend what we can afford.  In our own homes, we cannot have what we want, we can have what we can afford.  I think the city of Airdrie is overspending, and this is why our taxes are increasing at such an alarming rate.

The citizens of Airdrie want a fiscally responsible government.  We need to do more of that inhouse instead of asking for hand-outs.

Thank you.

Dr. Sieg Schuler

Airdrie, AB.
