Airdrie-East MLA Angela Pitt is stateside this week to attend the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL).

The NCSL brings together lawmakers and government leaders from all 50 U.S. states, commonwealths, territories and the District of Columbia. The conference promotes cooperation between state legislatures in the U.S. and those in other countries.

"Ensuring Alberta has a seat at the table will allow us to champion our economy, drive innovation and foster robust trade ties with our partners in the United States,” said Pitt in a statement released to the media. “Maintaining our strong trade relationship is a priority to ensure the smooth flow of goods, services and investments, boosting Alberta's export-driven industries like energy, agriculture and manufacturing. Preserving our positive relationship with our U.S. counterparts helps safeguard jobs, economic growth and overall prosperity on both sides of the border."

Pitt will be south of the border between Aug. 13 and Aug. 17 to attend the annual summit. According to the release, while there “she will meet with lawmakers, advocate for Alberta’s interests and strengthen relationships to advance common priorities.”

The United States is Alberta’s largest trading partner, and Alberta is the largest provincial exporter of goods to the U.S. in Canada. In 2022, those exports topped $141 billion USD.
