City council approved its strategic priorities for 2011 on June 7.
The priorities contain six goals including: designing a whole community, providing local careers and lifestyle-supporting jobs, increasing community pride and ownership, creating vibrant urban life, access to enhanced health care options and establishing a strong presence at the regional initiatives level.
“The ultimate purpose of this process is to move Airdrie toward its stated community vision,” said Dorian Kachur, the City’s business strategy team leader.
A community café was held in council chambers, March 23. After the event, council met with the City’s corporate planning team to redefine its goals for Airdrie.
“I appreciate being able to use the community café model to hear what the community had to say,” said Alderman Kelly Hegg.
“Our priorities are a bit more driven in the direction the community would like to see and that is important.
“This time, it was good to hear the voices directly from the community members.”
Council also considers input provided through the Citizens Satisfaction Survey, the environmental scan and various socio-economic and political indicators.
