The Edge Mountaineers Girls’ Prep hockey team had a 2W-1L-3T record during the Junior Women’s Challenge Cup in Washington, D.C., Jan. 28-31.

After a fantastic fortnight of tennis Down Under in Melbourne, it’s time to reflect. Yes, third-ranked Novak Djokovic capped a perfect tournament with an impressive straight-set triumph over world No. 5 Andy Murray. But there’s more to this story.

The Airdrie and District Tennis Association (ADTA) will host its Try Tennis event at Ralph McCall gym, Feb. 6, to introduce kids to the sport and benefit the local food bank.

Good things came in threes for the Airdrie Xtreme last week. The Bantam AAA hockey club won all three of its games over a four-day span, posting a 7-5 win over Okotoks, Jan. 27; a 6-0 defeat of Grande Prairie, Jan.

The Airdrie Thunder is still searching for the perfect weekend. The Junior B team split a pair of weekend games, falling 3-2 on the road to the Mountainview Colts, Jan. 30, after defeating the Strathmore Wheatland Kings 5-0 at home, Jan. 28.

The Airdrie Xtreme didn’t come back from St. Albert with a tournament title, but the Bantam AAA team played well and will look to continue the momentum through the end of the regular season.
