An Airdrie figure skater has been recognized as the 2010 Female Athlete of the Year for Special Olympics Alberta.

It may have taken 12 years, but the Airdrie Storm finally has its first playoff victory in Calgary Bantam Football Association play.

The Cochrane Cobras overcame a slow start with an explosive second half, as the team beat the Bow Valley Bobcats 41-9 to claim the Rocky View Sports Association’s Tier 3 football gold medal at home, Oct. 30.

After 48 minutes of regulation time and two overtime sessions settled nothing, the Springbank Phoenix used a trick out of the Canadian football playbook to claim the Rocky View Sports Association’s Tier 2 gold medal.
