Hundreds of minor football players from across the Calgary region came together for a large-scale exhibition tournament at Shouldice Park, Aug. 14.

Alberta’s youth reining champions have added an international accolade to their resume, after claiming the gold medal at the North American Junior and Young Riders Championship in Kentucky late last month.

A local girl is this year’s 2D Youth Champion at the Irvine Tack & Trailers Barrel Racing Series in Crossfield. Angela Cambruzzi, 16, won the championship with her 11-year-old quarter horse Annie in a time of 19.0 seconds.

Two Cochrane women are among the 35 players from across the country vying for 22 spots on the Canadian national women’s under-18 hockey team. Katy Josephs and Amy Helfrich are in Toronto for the camp, which runs from Aug.
