Airdrie proved again last weekend it can host major events, as the 2010 BMX nationals held in the city Aug. 27-29, was a resounding success.

The annual Airdrie Chamber of Commerce Golf tournament was a big success, raking in more than $22,000 for the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation, Aug 20. More than 80 local businesses took part in the tournament, which started at 1:30 p.m.

Despite the uncertainty of our unsettled weather, the Fun Country Riders completed another show and gymkhana on Aug. 22 at the Strathmore Rodeo Grounds. Thanks go to our judge, Diane Botsford, for placing the classes.

Airdrie’s new skate park has already been open for several months, but the City will make it official this weekend. The grand opening of the park, located within the Chinook Winds Regional Park, will take place between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Aug. 28.
