Crossfield Town council members unanimously approved the implementation of a sustainable and environmentally friendly burial site within the borders of the existing Crossfield Cemetery during their regular meeting on Feb. 15.

Crossfield Council members motioned to support a local 4-H Club project, and opted to extend all leases come due in 2022 for a period of one year during a regular meeting on Feb. 1.

The Crossfield Farmers Market will be hosting its first ever Rutabaga Bowl later this month – an unorthodox game of parking lot bowling featuring a root vegetable rather than a ball as the main prop.

A Crossfield-based glam country artist – inspired by the likes of Glen Campbell, Loretta Lynn, and Patsy Cline – is preparing for his final performance as part of Project WILD, a competition that seeks to find Alberta’s next budding country and roots music star.

The Town of Crossfield is undertaking a community social needs assessment with the help of a third-party consulting firm to determine what the municipality is doing well and what needs improvement when it comes to recreation services.

“On our end, we’re very sad, but at the same time, COVID has caused us to lose money for most of the [pandemic],” she said. “Every time we get started and going again, the government shuts us down for another COVID reason. It’s been a long haul, and I’m sure it was a consideration for the owners whether to close or not on many times along the way.”

RCMP Community Programs Officer (CPO) Trevor Stephens said he hopes to alleviate some of Crossfield resident’s concerns and answer some queries regarding dog control and its associated bylaws during his presentation to Crossfield Council on Jan. 18.

"Everybody was safe. That's the main thing. Today we're just trying to get operations back going on our facility."

"Everybody is safe, that's the main part for us," said Mike O'Brien, the farm manager. "Everyone is evacuated. That was our focus once it started. Right now, the fire departments and emergency services are working on it and that's where we are."

Crossfield Council members reviewed the Town’s snow clearing and removal policy for roads and sidewalks at the first meeting of the year held on Jan. 4, and were presented with information regarding snow removal on Railway Street.
